A lot of focus is put into how you, as the bride, will look on your wedding day-and rightly so! You should look and feel like the queen you are when you walk down the aisle. You’ll be dressed to the nines in your dream dress, and have Mr. Right waiting for you at the end of the aisle, along with all those near and dear to you to celebrate your love for each other.
With all of the attention on you though, your groom may feel a little left out. Grooms can be notorious for the “I’m not a picture person,” mentality. My goal as a photographer is to completely change that! He CAN be a picture person! One of the best ways to flip his inner script is by getting him INVOLVED. It’s his wedding day too!
Unless he’s working in a corporate job, chances are that a suit isn’t his every day attire. I’d love to get two different shots here! The first is of his suit hanging, whether on a wooden hanger or a nice valet stand. The second is a picture of him in his suit for you, because as cliche as it sounds, every girl’s crazy about a sharp dressed man.
A watch can tell more than just time! To a guy, this is his staple accessory, and deserves to be photographed!
He wants to smell nice for you, after all! This is most likely your favorite cologne that he’s spritzing on while he’s getting ready to wait for you at the alter.
Shoes are an important part of his outfit! While they’re usually not front and center, if he’s wearing his “blue suede shoes,” you’ll want to remember that!
Many grooms are now jumping in on the trend of having some funky socks! Why not rock your favorite superhero, Avenger, or sports team colors?! Brides, you have nothing to worry about with his socks clashing with your wedding theme! Chances are, most people won’t see them! Superhero socks can also be a great addition to groomsmen gifts as well!
If both the belt buckle and cufflinks are the same finish, we can utilize the belt to help complete the aesthetic. If not, we can photograph them separately, or skip the belt altogether if needed.
Especially if he’s got some classy or unique cufflinks, I’d love to incorporate them into his detail shots!
The tie or bow tie can make or break his outfit. Usually, this will be in a staple color that is in your theme, while the groomsmen’s ties are in a coordinating color so that the groom stands out.
Depending on how formal your wedding will be, he may have a pocket square. If he does, this will be the perfect addition to any detail shots!
Ladies, we all want to make our man cry happy tears on his wedding day. Remind him just how lucky he is to be marrying you by writing him a love note, to be delivered before your first look! If he’s not the shy type, this will also be another great photo opportunity!
While flowers for your grooms details might be a little too light, Greenery clippings from your floral arrangement will add some balance to an otherwise heavy picture, and help tie everything in nicely. Most times, if you ask your florist ahead of time for the extra clippings of flowers and greenery from your arrangements, they’ll be more than happy to provide them! His boutonnière can be shot alone, and also with his dad or best man helping him fasten it to his suit lapel.
Is his handkerchief from his grandfather? Did his dad give him an engraved pocket knife? I’d love to include those in his detail shots!
Here’s everything he’ll need in a list:
-Tie or Bow Tie
-Gifts or Note from Bride
-Boutonniere and Greenery Clippings
-Anything Creative or Unique to Him
